Product review by Sharon @ all natural health-

Tinctures have become quite popular lately.  If you're not using them, you probably know someone that is.  They are actual herbs that have been soaked in a menstrum to extract their healing properties.  The menstrum, or the base of the tincture, can be any number of ingredients, such as glycerin, alcohol, or vinegar.  This base acts to extract as well as preserve the herbal remedy.  Tinctures should be stored out of the light and out of extreme temperatures.  They are packed full of living, health-giving nutrients, rather than synthetic herbal replications.

There are as many different  types of tinctures as there are different types of herbs and herbal combinations.  Each one is formulated to serve a particular health-related need.  Since this is our February Spotlight, I thought that I would focus on a health need that is timely to the season, that being building and maintaining a strong immune system.  We all know that when we have low immunity, we are more susceptible to catching viruses.  So this is the time to strengthen our immunity, before we fall prey to these viral culprits.

This is what *Herbal Center (on-line) says about tinctures and immunity:  "Herbal supplements and tonics can strengthen the immune system and aid in balancing your body's biochemical and physiological systems.  The immune system functions by producing antibodies and stimulating specialized cells, which destroy foreign cells or organisms and neutralize their toxic products.  The immune system also recognizes and eliminates damaged or dying cells.  The immunity process involves the production of white blood cells and other chemical and physical barriers in the body.  Herbs help maintain the immune system and make it responsive to changing circumstances, and strengthen the body when under attack.  When your various systems are in balance, you are less likely to get colds, flu and other infections."

I have been using a tincture made specifically for boosting the immune system for quite awhile now that really seems to be working.  It's appropriately named Super Immune Boost.  My poor husband has had twice as many colds as I have since I've been taking it.  I think this says a lot!  The ingredients sound more like a zesty meal than a healthcare remedy.  It has ingredients like Garlic, Onions, Horseradish, Habañero Pepper, and Oregano.  It sounds like it will really give you a kick in the taste buds, and it does... but in a very good way.  There is nothing to fear here.  When I read the ingredients, I thought... hmmmm, I don't know about this.  But I was very pleasantly surprised to find that I really enjoy it!  This is what the **Homemakers. com site said about spicy ingredients and colds: "...the best mucokinetic (mucus-moving) foods are those that are spicy. These foods trigger a release of fluids in air passages that breaks up congestion by thinning mucus and flushing out sinuses. The mouth-burning agent in chili peppers is capsaicin, which is similar to a drug found in many over-the-counter cough syrups and expectorants. Garlic, onions and horseradish also contain agents that have a chemical resemblance to drugs found in drugstore medications."

All of the ingredients have long been known for their anti-viral, anti-bacterial and all-around healing properties.  And they are basically food-type ingredients that are very safe and effective.  (Of course, I should say here that anyone can have a negative reaction to any different food and/or chemical.  So what is safe for one individual might not be safe for another.  It is up to us to learn what those allergies and sensitivities are.)  The bottom line here is... I've really enjoyed this product.  It tastes good, it feels good.  And it seems to be working for me.  With that, I'll let you be your own judge.  I recommend Super Immune Boost from Evan's Garden.
